Hello Skyhawks, just recently the first live-action Pokémon movie came out in theaters featuring iconic Pokémon, and of course Pikachu. For a lot of people this will be nostalgic to the first time they held a Gameboy and played Pokémon 20 years ago, or more commonly for us, when we picked up our first game on the DS or watched the TV show.

The plot of Detective Pikachu goes as this; A boy named Tim goes to Rhyme city after learning that his father, a detective, has been killed in a car accident. Though Tim does not believe this, so he then goes to his father’s apartment where he finds Detective Pikachu frolicking in the apartment. Detective Pikachu then helps Tim find the truth about what happened to his father and where he is.

The plot is somewhat simple and a little cliché as the actors in this movie somewhat overact on some parts of the movie, but you learn to get used to it. It’s about as bad as Kirsten Dunst constantly screaming as Mary Jane Watson in the Spiderman movies. Apart from that, this movie is something that you would want to see not because of the plot, but to see all of those amazing Pokémon as close to real life as possible. Yeah we’re getting close to seeing Disney movies becoming live-action but Pokémon has never had that before, until now. And I’m sure all of us who’ve played a Pokémon game, collected the cards, or watched the TV show has at least thought about what it would be like to have Pokémon in real life, or least wonder what they’d look like.

Since this is the first live-action Pokémon movie, there was a chance that this movie was going to be a failure and then another chance that this movie would surprisingly be good. Well, Warner Bros took that chance and it got positive reactions from the audiences.

Justice Smith, an upcoming movie star, in which he was first seen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is playing as “Tim” in this movie. Then the famous actor Ryan Reynolds is playing as the iconic “Detective Pikachu”. Their portraying of those characters bring the movie to its fullest potential with the audience and kept people interested in it.

The scenery in this “Pokémon Movie” is just superb and the special effects make it look real. Some parts in this movie you wish you could see in 3D since they really have eye popping effects and visuals.

With that said, I would give this movie an 8.5/10 due to the exhibition of many Pokémon brought to life, the actors performance in the movie, and the gorgeous scenery.
